Newborn Prep Kit – what should I have in my Nursery?
Having a new baby is so wonderfully exciting, but preparing for the baby can be so overwhelming. Friends, family, and even people on the street have all sorts of ideas about what products and things new parents should have. As a pediatrician, there are some products or things I recommend during the newborn period, and I find that it is so much easier for familes when they don’t have to run to the local pharmacy to grab things I may recommend. I will often gather some of these things and put them in a basket as a baby gift with a few baby books, and it is always a hit! So here is my list of recommended items all new parents should have in their nursery with regards to their baby’s health, as I do tend to recommend them in baby’s first 3 months. Please consult your doctor before using any medicines!
Creams, Ointments, and Bath Wash:
Aquaphor – Great all around petroleum based ointment. Perfect for daily barrier use all over body including diaper area
Babyganics Newborn Gift Set – A complete set of products by a reputable brand
Babyganics Shampoo and Body Wash
Aveeno Eczema Cream – For babies who develop eczema
Ura Organic Calendula Cream – A nice all over soothing ointment
Tubby Todd All Over Ointment – A wonderful company with great product. This one is fantastic for sensitive and eczema prone skin
Critic-Aid Clear Ointment – This is the absolute best barrier diaper ointment out there. I will always recommend it for babies and infants with recurrent and severe diaper rash. Perfect for rashes that develop open sores.
Hydrocortisone 1% ointment – I will often prescribe this for certain rashes sparingly
Lotrimin (Clotrimazole 1%) Antifungal Cream – Babies can often get skin yeast infections in their necks, arm pits, and diaper region and I use this to help treat it
